Hoosier Futbol Club Under 12 Girls Bring Home Coveted Prize
Local Soccer Team Wins Ohio Tourney for the Second Time in Three Years

INDIANAPOLIS – The Hoosier Futbol Club (HFC) today announced that the 98-99 Girls Elite prevailed in the five-star division at Mead Cup on Monday, September 6, 2010. The team is comprised of girls from Noblesville, Carmel, Indianapolis, and Muncie and is coached by North Central High School and Indiana University – Bloomington graduate and former National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-American Tom Keenan. Mead Cup is a highly-regarded youth soccer tournament hosted by Centerville United Soccer Association and held annually during the Labor Day weekend in Dayton, Ohio with more than one hundred elite, premier, and competitive teams participating from Region II. The five-star division is the highest level of competition offered at the tournament.

“I am so excited about this group of girls,” commented Coach Keenan. “They work hard during training and it certainly showed this weekend on the pitch. The championship game was intense. My girls were down 0-2 at the half, but they didn’t give up on each other, didn’t give in to the pressure, and rallied to a 3-2 victory. I couldn’t be more proud of them – and for them to win a tournament of this caliber for the second time in three years – well it just speaks volumes to their dedication to and love for the game.”

The team was formed during a winter futsal league at HFC and played competitively for the first time in January 2007; five of the girls on that initial roster continue to play for the team. In the Spring 2010 season, the girls placed first in a 49-0 rout of the Greater Indiana Regional League of Soccer (GIRLS) U11 premier division, but will play in The Premiere League (TPL) organized and operated by the Cincinnati United Soccer League for the Fall 2010 season. Currently the team is ranked 2nd in Indiana, 10th in Region II, and 36th in the nation by Soccer in College

HFC Director of Coaching, Scott Fridley, said, “We are so proud of our club’s continued success in Region II. HFC is home to slightly more than 200 U8-U19 young athletes; we sent seven teams to Mead Cup – all of which competed well; two made it to the semi-finals; and one brought home the championship. That’s pretty impressive for a smaller club. I’m elated for the club, the parents, and especially these young people who are so passionate about the game and work so hard to achieve success for their team and Hoosier FC! Coach Keenan has done a great job with these young ladies; we are very proud of them.”

The HFC 98-99 Girls Elite will compete locally September 18-19, 2010 in the A.L. Smith Invitational hosted by St. Francis Soccer Club.
